This product meets a sustainability criterion in chemical management. PFCs (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds) are a group of chemical substances harmful to the environment and to our health. These chemicals are found in many everyday items such as kitchen utensils, pizza boxes, paper and even in fabrics such as raincoats. Once released into the environment, they are widely dispersed. Scientists have found traces of PFCs in drinking water, air, blood, polar bears and breast milk. Some PFCs can also have a harmful effect on reproduction and cause cancer. Harmful fluorocarbons degrade very slowly, if not over hundreds of years.
About DWR
Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is the ability of a garment to resist water and humidity. It is measurable to keep out a certain amount of water and is tested under laboratory conditions. DWR works by making the fibers on the outside of a garment hydrophobic, or in other words, water repellent. The DWR treatment creates an "edgy" surface, which increases surface tension when water comes into contact with it and causes water droplets to stick together at the outer edge of the fabric.
