'Kampai' is the combination of the Japanese symbols for 'Drink' and 'Dry Sake Cup' - a celebratory word that translates to 'Drink Your Cup Dry'. The Hokkaido Tiger Club draws inspiration from the iconic Souvenir Jacket, or Sukajan, popularized post-WWII by American GI's looking to bring something home to represent their time spent overseas. Like any culturally significant artifact, the Sukajan, and the intricate embroideries it brought with it, quickly became a fashion statement the world over, and served as a symbol of rebellion in the 60's youth.
